Risk source

A risk source is anything in the organisation that can constitute a chemical risk — typically a chemical product with an associated safety data sheet (SDS). Ester's risk management is built around the risk source.

The risk source is the central object in Ester. All risk assessment, classification and follow-up is linked to individual risk sources.

A risk source in Ester contains, among other things:

• Product identification — name, article number, supplier
• Hazard statements — H- and EUH codes from the SDS
• Inherent risk — calculated based on chemical composition and hazard statements
• Operational risk — calculated based on inherent risk and any risk assessments
• Location — where in the location tree the risk source is located and used
• Status — active, pending risk, exempt or excluded

Each risk source can be linked to a product category (e.g. cleaning agents, solvents, lubricants). The product category provides additional context for risk assessment and reporting.
